Paying for care
Clear, honest answers about the cost of care.
Care funding is confusing by design, it sometimes seems. This page explains the main routes in plain English — and our promise: transparent pricing, no hidden charges, and the same standard of care whoever pays.
Our pricing promise
- Clear hourly and weekly rates, confirmed in writing at assessment — before you commit to anything.
- No hidden extras: travel within our area, care planning, reviews and digital records are included.
- Itemised invoices you can actually read.
- No pressure, ever. Our assessment is free and carries no obligation.
The main ways home care is funded
Paying privately (self-funding)
You deal directly with us: you choose the level of support, and we agree clear costs at assessment. Many families combine a few funded hours with family support. If your savings are likely to fall toward the means-test threshold over time, tell us — we'll help you plan ahead and involve the council at the right moment, not in a crisis.
Local authority funding
West Sussex County Council can arrange and part- or fully fund care following a care needs assessment (your right under the Care Act 2014, regardless of income) and a financial assessment. If you qualify, you can often still choose your provider through a direct payment — many clients use direct payments to choose One Path Care.
NHS funding
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) fully funds care for people whose needs are primarily health-related — it is not means-tested. Short-term intermediate care and reablement after hospital is normally free for up to six weeks. If we think you may be eligible for CHC, we will say so and support the process — too few families are told about it.
Other help worth checking
Attendance Allowance and Personal Independence Payment (not means-tested; many eligible people never claim), Carer's Allowance for family carers, and local carer support services.
Honest guidance, not sales
We are a care provider, not financial advisers — for advice on funding care from assets, speak to a specialist later-life financial adviser (look for SOLLA accreditation). What we will always do is tell you honestly what level of care we think you need — including when it's less than you feared, or when another route would serve you better.
